Academy Sports + Outdoors names former Walmart evp as new CMO

Michelle Gloeckler was named the new CMO, evp and president of Academy Sports + Outdoors, effective Aug. 29.

“I’m ecstatic to join the Academy Sports + Outdoors team, and I look forward to getting to know our merchant, planning, sourcing and product development team members, along with our vendors and manufacturing partners,” Gloeckler said. “I believe Academy’s everyday low price approach, community focused stores and the merchandise mix of national and private brands position it uniquely in the industry for future growth and success.”

        Gloeckler previously held the role of evp of consumables and health and wellness for Walmart. She joined Walmart in 2009 and worked as vp of confection and impulse, svp of merchandise, svp of home and US manufacturing lead. Prior to Walmart, Gloeckler spent six years with Hershey, and held positions as vp of strategic customers.
