Brookshire Brothers CEO plans to step down, successor appointed

Brookshire Brothers President and CEO Jerry Johnson will step down from his position at the end of April 2017, company officials announced earlier this week. Johnson will continue as a member of the Brookshire Brothers board of directors.

Current Brookshire Brothers COO John Alston will succeed Johnson as president and CEO. Alston has 35 years of experience with Brookshire Brothers.

Johnson joined Brookshire Brothers’ board of directors in 1997. He played a key role in transitioning Brookshire Brothers to a majority employee-owned company in 1999. That same year, Johnson was named chief administrative officer. He served as chairman of the board from 2003 to 2007 and assumed his current role as president and CEO in 2007. Under Johnson’s leadership, the company expanded from 69 locations throughout Texas and Louisiana to 114 stores and from a family-owned company with 5,700 employees to a 100 percent employee-owned company with 7,000 employee-owners.
