Delhaize Leadership Shifts

Delhaize Group named Frans Muller its chief executive officer. Muller will begin on Oct. 14. Muller will oversee all of Delhaize US’s operations including Food Lion, Hannaford and Bottom Dollar stores.

Muller replaces Pierre-Oliver Beckers, who last year announced his plans to retire.

Additionally, Delhaize’s US CEO, Roland Smith, announced plans to retire.

Muller previously served as CEO of Metro Cash & Carry and sat on the management board of its parent company, Metro AG.

Beckers will continue serving in an advisory role until the end of the year and serve as a non-executive member of the Delhaize board of directors. Like Beckers, Smith will finish out the year serving in an advisory role.
