Walmart to roll out meal kits in 2,000 stores
On March 5, Walmart introduced a meal-kit solution to appeal to customers looking for a more convenient way to get dinner on the table. The meal kits are available in more than 250 stores and are expected to roll out to about 2,000 stores in 2018. They will also be available on Walmart’s Online Grocery Pickup, allowing customers to place their orders online at lunch and pick them up in time for dinner.
The meals, that are made and assembled fresh in stores daily, come in three options.
The first is pre-portioned, prepped meal kits with variety like Steak Dijon, Basil Garlic Chicken, Sweet Chili Chicken Stir Fry and Pork Florentine. The second is Rotisserie Chicken Meals that combine rotisserie chicken with curated ingredients with options such as Thai Curry Chicken and Chicken Fried Rice and the third is One Step Meals which allow customers to heat up and serve prepared meals such as Chicken Alfredo, Cheesy Ravioli Bake, Meatloaf, Spaghetti and Meatballs or Chicken Parmesan. The meal options serve two people and range in price from $8 to $15.
“Customers are busier than ever and we know getting a delicious dinner on the table can be a chore. We’re here to help,” said Tyler Lehr, senior vice president and general merchandise manager of Walmart. “These delicious meals give the best or worst of cooks a fresh, easy option for dinner tonight, or later this week,” Lehr said.
