Kindness Beyond the Aisles: Celebrating World Kindness Day at Dollar General
Customers Recognize Employees’ Extraordinary Acts of Service
At Dollar General, kindness isn’t just a value—it’s a daily practice. Whether it’s a helping hand, a listening ear or a simple smile, our employees consistently go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of our customers and communities.
This World Kindness Day, we’re shining a light on the heartfelt moments that remind us how powerful compassion can be. Through emails and messages from our customers, we’ve gathered a few of the many stories showcasing the extraordinary kindness shown by our team members—moments that turned ordinary shopping trips into unforgettable experiences.
Join us as we celebrate the people behind the register, in the stockroom and throughout our stores who make kindness part of their job description.
Quentin T. – Erie, PA (Store #7705)
In a world that often feels rushed, Quentin stands out as a beacon of patience and positivity. A customer recently shared, “Quentin is one of the most positive, kind, service-oriented clerks I have ever encountered.” The customer went on to highlight Quentin’s cheerful and attentive demeanor—going so far as to help seniors load heavy items into their carts. The customer shared that another shopper chimed in to confirm, “He is always that way.” Quentin’s innate kindness and commitment to service left such an impression that the customer added, “If I were a business owner, I’d have made Quentin a job offer right on the spot.”
Michael C. – Tyler, TX (Store #7078)
Kindness isn’t just a moment—it’s a mindset, and Michael lives it every day. A regular customer shared, “Michael goes above and beyond for every customer… I teared up witnessing his great act of kindness.” That moment? Michael assisting a wheelchair-bound shopper with such care and compassion it moved onlookers to tears. Known for his warm greetings, professionalism and dedication to keeping the store spotless, Michael embodies Dollar General’s mission and values. As the customer put it, “He deserves 5 stars and a position to spread the love all over.”
Matt B. – Villa Rica, GA (Store #6688)
After a customer’s car battery died in the parking lot, our store team stepped in without hesitation. “They went above and beyond the call of duty to help me, and I am forever grateful,” the customer shared. Matt and team’s compassion and willingness to assist in a moment of vulnerability turned a stressful situation into a heartwarming experience. The customer added, “I’ll come back, just because of them.”
Granbury, TX Store Team (Store #30244)
One customer recently shared a heartfelt story that highlights the extraordinary kindness of a Dollar General team. After misplacing her car keys, she was overwhelmed by the collective effort of the entire store staff who searched high and low until they were found. “It wasn’t just one employee but all of them!” she wrote. What made the moment even more meaningful was the sentimental value of the keychain attached to the keys—a memento from her first trip to Las Vegas with her husband 16 years ago. “Sometimes it’s not simply the loss of a car key,” she explained, “but a little trinket…without any value to anyone but the person who holds something so dear.”
As we celebrate World Kindness Day, we’re reminded that the small acts of care and compassion our employees show every day reflect Dollar General’s mission: Serving Others. Thank you to our customers for sharing these inspiring stories—and to our employees for embodying our mission and making kindness a cornerstone of the Dollar General experience.
