Heritage Grocers Group Announces New CEO
Heritage Grocers Group has chosen David Hinojosa as its new CEO after a thorough search. He will lead the company’s growth, focusing on quality food, strong operations, and connecting with local communities. Hinojosa plans to grow the business while continuing to invest in fresh foods, efficient operations, and community retail experiences.
David Hirz, chairman of Heritage Grocers, said, “We looked for a leader with strong industry experience and values that match Heritage. David’s expertise, humble leadership style, and focus on community and diversity are a great fit.”
Hinojosa expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m honored to join Heritage. Their dedication to serving diverse communities and providing fresh, affordable food aligns with my values. I look forward to working with the team to grow and innovate.”
Hinojosa has more than 30 years of retail experience in the U.S., Australia, and Asia. He started his career at age 17 as a part-time stocker at Walmart while in college. Later, he worked at H-E-B managing stores and leadership roles for 17 years. He also worked internationally at Metcash in Australia and Makro in Thailand. After returning to the U.S., he held leadership positions at ShopRite and Vallarta Supermarkets, where he became COO in 2023.
He has a bachelor’s degree from Whittier College, and completed management programs at Harvard and Cornell. He also serves on boards for the Western Association of Food Chains and the Food Industry Association.
