FMI Appoints Well-Known Retail Dietitian Krystal Register to Lead Health and Well-Being Initiatives
The Food Industry Association announced the appointment of Krystal Register, MS, RDN, LDN, to lead health and well-being initiatives for the association. Register, a long-time Wegmans Food Markets retail dietitian, carves out a unique position at FMI during a time when its members say they place greater value on their health and well-being initiatives.
Register will lead health and well-being programs and activities and serve as the issue expert on all health and well-being and nutrition policy, operations and communication issues for FMI members.
FMI Chief Food and Product Safety Officer and SVP for Food Safety Programs Hilary Thesmar, Ph.D., RD, CFS, commented on Register’s 12 years of experience at Wegmans, saying, “Krystal’s sterling reputation in the nutrition community contributes to her being a trusted authority within the nutrition and dietetics field and has demonstrated her ability to work seamlessly with her peers in retail dietetics as well as dietitians in other practice areas such as clinical, public health, community and nutrition policy, which will augment FMI’s work representing member programs.”
Thesmar continued, “I look forward to building this role and responsibility with Krystal and supporting her as she works with FMI to enhance health and well-being programs for our member companies as they develop, implement and evaluate their programs to improve the health of their customers.”
At Wegmans, Register developed and executed company-wide wellness programs, health messaging, employee training and in-store promotions. She participated in popular community events to include the annual NBC4 Health and Fitness Expo, DC Gluten-Free Education Day and Smithsonian Food History programming; and, she frequently provided timely nutrition response for local media outlets.
Register’s background includes environmental and nutrition science studies with degrees from the College of William and Mary and James Madison University, with both clinical nutrition and personal coaching experience.
