DG’s Carman Wenkoff Honored with Tennessee ORBIE Award

Carman Wenkoff, executive vice president and chief information officer at Dollar General (DG), has been recognized with a 2025 Tennessee ORBIE Award in the large enterprise category. The awards recognize exceptional leadership and innovation of top technology executives across eight categories.

Wenkoff leads DG’s information technology department, ensuring the company has a world-class strategic roadmap to leverage new technologies and processes to better serve customers, employees and shareholders. He assembled DG’s first digital strategy and technology team, leading the development of the DG App to provide customers with an enhanced shopping experience that prioritizes affordability. Wenkoff, who joined the company in 2017, has successfully led his team’s efforts to modernize all aspects of the DG business and address business challenges, most recently by pioneering DG’s new customer-centric AI strategy.

“Great technology executives understand how connections drive transformation,” said Al Smith, TennesseeCIO Chair. “The ORBIE Awards recognize CIOs and CISOs who leverage relationships to drive innovation, solve complex challenges and shape the future of Tennessee.”

The ORBIE is the preeminent executive recognition for c-suite leaders. Since 1998, the ORBIE Awards have recognized leadership excellence, building relationships between executives and trusted business partners and inspiring the next generation of executives. Finalists and winners are selected through an independent peer-adjudicated process led by prior ORBIE recipients.
