Global Pet Foods raised more than $170,000 to help homeless pets during a two-week fundraising campaign.
The pet retailer partnered with Hill’s Science Diet to hold the seventh annual Show Us Your Heart campaign last month. Since its inauguration in 2006, the campaign has raised approximately $570,000, according to organizers. All proceeds are donated to local animal shelters selected by Global employees.
Global Pet Foods hosts the campaign for two weeks every February at each of the retailer’s 160 locations. Employees ask customers to “show their hearts” by making a $1 minimum donation to help a local animal group. Global matches the first $1 of in-store donations.
Global President Jim Walker created the fundraiser as a means to give back to local animal shelters that don’t receive government funding or have fundraising departments. Walker owns two rescue dogs, both of which he adopted.
