H-E-B To Host First-Ever Texas Reading Day on Sept. 30

Texas-based grocery retailer H-E-B has announced the Read 3 Big Texas Read-in, with the intention of fostering a love of reading and promoting literacy. This will mark the largest reading event in Texas and will be hosted virtually and in-person at select locations on Sept. 30, 2022. It will also feature an in-person reading experience with New York Times Best Selling Author, Camila Alves McConaughey.

“Since our humble beginnings in 1905, H-E-B has put a focus on supporting our community and making a positive impact. Our Read3 program is a passion project aimed to foster a love of reading and help every Texan child excel,” said Christa Aldrich, H-E-B Program Manager. “Our team at H-E-B is focused on empowering Texans to embrace furthering education and fostering literacy in order to help both communities and residents thrive in childhood and beyond.”

H-E-B has been committed to literacy across Texas with initiatives like their Read 3 program for more than 11 years. The program encourages caretakers to read to children at least three times a week.

Healthy eating advocate, Texas resident and New York Times Best Selling author Camila Alves McConaughey will be hosting a live reading of her best-selling book, Just Try One Bite, at the Long Center in Austin, Texas. Just Try One Bite is a story of role reversal where children attempt to get their picky-eating parents to try whole, healthy foods.

“As a mother, I wrote Just Try One Bite with children and their parents in mind. I wanted to create something that would tell a story but also foster a connection and strengthen family bonds through a shared activity,” said McConaughey. “I’m honored to partner with H-E-B to emphasize how important reading with children is for both literacy and help enable that connection for families in Texas and around the country.”
