H-E-B Tournament of Champions raises record-breaking amount for Texas charities

One of the largest charitable events in the nation, the H-E-B Tournament of Champions annually raises millions of dollars to support Texas nonprofits. This year’s annual event set a new record, bringing in $10.8 million. In its 37 years, the organization has now generated more than $145 million to support Texas children and families.

his year’s annual Tournament of Champions took place in San Antonio from June 8-10, bringing together H-E-B Partners, vendors and suppliers for a common cause. The event raises money to support nonprofit organizations focused on the needs of children and families throughout the Lone Star State, supporting more than 600 organizations since the program’s inception in 1986.

“We are thrilled to have set a new record, a milestone we could only achieve with the enduring support from so many committed organizations,” said Winell Herron, H-E-B Group Vice President of Public Affairs and Diversity and Environmental Affairs. “Through this giving, we’re able to provide more support to nonprofits across Texas, as well as much needed assistance to the victims, children and families in Uvalde still reeling from tragic loss.”

The H-E-B Tournament of Champions also partnered with nonprofit organization Homes for Our Troops to build a custom home for a wounded military veteran and his family. This home and the 17 that have been donated over the years through this event, are gifted mortgage-free, fully furnished and stocked with food and home supplies. This year’s home recipient is U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Oscar Guerra. He and his family were presented with the keys to their new home during a special dedication ceremony.

In addition to financial support, the Tournament of Champions hosted multiple volunteer activities that benefit San Antonio nonprofits. These transformative volunteer projects have become a mainstay of the three-day event, allowing the event’s participants to experience a glimpse into the incredible impact their donations enable each year. This year, the H-E-B Tournament of Champions hosted volunteer projects with the Good Samaritan Community Center, Homes for Our Troops, Boysville, Down Syndrome Association and the San Antonio Food Bank. More than 1,500 volunteers joined forces to assist these nonprofit organizations with renovation projects, children’s activities and beautification efforts.
