Hy-Vee Donates and Delivers Nearly $250,000 in Food and Water in Eastern Iowa Following Storm Damage

In response to severe storm damage across Iowa on Monday, Aug. 10, Hy-Vee, has donated and delivered nearly $250,000 worth of food and water to residents in need throughout eastern Iowa.

“The damage inflicted by this storm to our communities is unlike anything we’ve seen in a long time, as it cut such a wide path across the state and hit so many areas,” said Randy Edeker, chairman of the board, CEO and president of Hy-Vee. “The damage is especially severe in the eastern portion of the state, and we want to do whatever we can to help those residents as they clean up their neighborhoods and begin the recovery process.”

Hy-Vee semi-trailers, Hy-Vee Healthy You Mobiles and hundreds of employees have assisted with the storm relief effort, including staging drive-thru donation pickup sites in Cedar Rapids, Marshalltown, Marion and Toledo and making stops throughout Cedar Rapids neighborhoods, Benton County communities and surrounding areas.

A severe weather event known as a “derecho” brought winds in excess of 100 miles per hour and heavy rains across eastern Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois. Due to the nature of the storm, damage to homes and businesses was much more widespread than a tornado and more than 20 Iowa counties are under emergency declarations.
