Käserei Champignon Cheeses Win Multiple Awards at 2022 World Championship Cheese Contest

Champignon North America, the exclusive importer of Käserei Champignon cheeses to the US, recently announced that Champignon specialty cheeses have won Best in Class GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE medals at the prestigious World Championship Cheese Contest in Madison, WI. Held over three days from March 1 to March 3, thousands of cheeses from around the world were judged by some of the globe’s preeminent cheese experts.

In the category of Blue Veined Cheeses with Exterior Mold, Käserei Champignon took home the top two medals in the field of 37 cheeses, Best in Class GOLD going to CAMBOZOLA Black Label and SILVER going to CAMBOZOLA Classic. The iconic CAMBOZOLA brand is celebrating its 40th anniversary in the US this year and is the original triple-cream, soft-ripened cheese with delicate notes of blue. CAMBOZOLA Black Label, the reserve version introduced to the US in 2013, has received several prizes including the Supreme Champion Prize at the World Cheese Awards in 2013.

Käserei Champignon’s GRAND NOIR took home Best in Class GOLD in the category of Blue Veined Cheeses with a score of 99.25 out of 100 in a field of 36 strong competitors. First introduced to the US market in 2016, GRAND NOIR is wrapped in a distinctive black wax mantle, cold aged to develop a silky texture, bold flavor and exquisite complexity and is made with fresh alpine milk from cows that graze the lush Allgäu region of Bavaria.

CHAMPIGNON Mushroom Brie, an ultra-creamy soft-ripened cheese flecked with hand-picked German button mushrooms took home BRONZE in the category of Flavored, Soft-Ripened Cheese out of a field of 48 competitors.

“We are so proud, grateful and above all, humbled by this recognition from the World Championship Cheese Contest and the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association,” said Kelly Newsome, Marketing Manager for Champignon North America. “Käserei Champignon has been making exceptional specialty cheeses for more than a century and is known across the globe for our expertise in the blue and soft-ripened categories. Having all three of our blue cheeses win top honors in their respective categories is a testament to the hard work, expertise and experience of our cheesemakers and all of the farmers that have been supplying Käserei Champignon for generations. We are truly honored and will continue to work hard to continue this tradition of excellence.”
