King Kullen to be Acquired by Giunta’s Meat Farms

Giunta’s Meat Farms is growing. The company recently acquired 24 King Kullen supermarkets and four Wild by Nature natural food stores. Both Giunta’s Meat Farms and King Kullen are family-owned and based on Long Island, NY.

Giunta’s Meat Farms is a third-generation family-owned supermarket grocer with 10 locations. King Kullen has been recognized as Long Island’s largest family-owned grocery chain. With the new acquisition, Giunta’s will become the second-largest chain on Long Island, behind regional giant Stop & Shop.

“King Kullen is more than a supermarket company,” said Joseph Giunta, co-owner of Giunta’s. “It’s America’s first supermarket and a significant part of Long Island’s history. We’re honored to carry that legacy forward while delivering the strong everyday value that has long defined the Meat Farms experience.”

“As we looked toward the future, it was important to us to identify a local company that understood what makes King Kullen so special,” noted Tracey Cullen, who was appointed King Kullen’s president and COO last month. “We found that in family-owned Giunta’s Meat Farms. They appreciate our history and our people. We are confident they are the right steward of the King Kullen legacy, and we look forward to working together throughout the transition.”

The acquisition brings together two longtime Long Island grocery businesses with deep family roots. As the transition moves forward, Giunta’s Meat Farms will look to preserve King Kullen’s legacy while expanding its presence across the region.
