Ocado to open office in Washington DC
On March 18, 2019, Ocado Solutions announced it was establishing a base in North America. Beginning April 2019, the Ocado office will be based in Tysons, Virginia ahead of establishing a permanent location in the Washington DC area.
In recent years Ocado has developed strong working partnerships with Kroger in the US and Sobeys in Canada. The new office be vital in coordinating the delivery of Ocado’s technology, as well as support and engineering services to sites across North America.
In 2018 Ocado partnered with Kroger, giving the grocery giant exclusive use of the Ocado Smart Platform in the US. These solutions will be underpinned by the rapid roll-out of 20 highly automated Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) across the country in the coming years. The development of a CFC for Sobeys in Canada is underway for the Greater Toronto Area.
Luke Jensen, CEO of Ocado Solutions said, “I am delighted that we are bringing Ocado to Washington DC. The new office will give us a direct presence in North America from which to oversee the delivery of our innovative partnerships with Kroger and Sobeys. We selected the DC area for its great connections to cities across the US and Canada, as well as for its strong technology and engineering talent pools.”
The company plans to coordinate the recruitment and training of hundreds of highly skilled technologists and engineers across North America from this office. “We look forward to welcoming this new talent to support the relentless pursuit of innovation at the core of Ocado’s mission,” Jensen said.
