Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace Opens New Location on Long Island, Hires 200 New Employees

Long Island’s leading specialty grocer, Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace, has debuted its newest store at 1170 Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon, NY. The location marks company’s seventh store on Long Island and ninth overall. The full-service supermarket, renowned for its high-quality, Italian-themed specialties and food offerings, enjoys a loyal customer base seeking a unique culinary and grocery shopping experience.

Built on the site of a former King Kullen, the 39,241-square-foot store, located within Sunset Plaza, was gutted and retrofit to Uncle Giuseppe’s exacting standards. Despite the challenges fueled by the Covid-19 pandemic and the New York State on PAUSE executive order, construction was completed successfully and ahead of a slated March 2021 schedule. As a result, a soft opening was launched in mid-December 2020, providing an opportunity for the local community to shop during the holiday season.

Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace is an organization of inclusion and will employ more than 200 full-time and part-time associates from the local communities surrounding the North Babylon location. Staff and team training began in early November 2020 in advance of the soft opening.

“We are extremely grateful for the warm reception and positive response we have received from the North Babylon community during the building and our ‘soft’ opening these past few weeks,” said Carl DelPrete, CEO of Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace. “We are especially proud of our team members who work tirelessly every day to ensure the Uncle Giuseppe’s experience, and this newest store is no exception. As we continue to grow our brand and add new locations, we will always remain true to our mission, to be more than just a supermarket and to always provide a great shopping experience with a dedicated staff who understands the meaning of customer service.”

As with all other Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplaces, the North Babylon location will feature a full-service deli offering homemade dishes prepared using traditional old world recipes; an in-house bakery showcasing specialty cakes, pastries, breads and desserts; a custom-cut meat department with in-house butchers, a beautiful selection of fresh and organic produce, a full seafood department, a gourmet cheese department displaying the finest and most sought-after selections from around the world and special viewing rooms where pasta and mozzarella are made fresh daily directly in front of the customer through protective glass partitions.

In addition, there will be a tremendous variety of pre-packaged meals, and a soup and salad bar with an extensive array of ready-to-eat items prepared daily by the in-store chefs of Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace. Sushi chefs will create sushi rolls, specialty rolls and sashimi and will also take custom orders. A gourmet chocolate, candy and gelato station greets shoppers as they enter the store and a full coffee and espresso bar is also available with plenty of seating at a six-foot distance. All of these extensive choices will be rounded out by general grocery, dairy and frozen food offerings to deliver an exciting, one-stop shopping destination. For added convenience, Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace will also offer home delivery and curbside pickup.

“Our team is ready and focused on providing the very best of what Uncle Giuseppe’s has to offer,” said Vincent Zisa, Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace store manager at North Babylon. “The owners put so much thought, energy and ingenuity into this location including state-of-the-art kitchen equipment that allows our chefs the opportunity to produce quality food at an expedited pace to keep up with demand. We’re committed and we’ll be a good neighbor and member of the North Babylon community.”
