United Fresh Initiative Brings Salad Bars to Michigan Schools

Seventeen Michigan schools will have salad bars as a food option, thanks to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and United Fresh Start Foundation.

The Salad Bars to Schools initiative has been in place in Michigan schools since 2015 and now has a presence in 91 state schools.

“We at Blue Cross are proud to continue this collaborative effort that has empowered more than 45,000 Michigan students statewide to make healthier choices at school,’” Lynda Rossi, evp of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Through various partnerships, the initiative has placed salad bars in more than 5,600 schools nationwide.

“This partnership demonstrates the value of collaboration with like-minded organizations to benefit our children and empower their healthy choices each day,” Tom Stenzel, president and CEO of the United Fresh Produce Association.
