United Supermarkets to be Acquired by Albertson’s

Albertson’s LLC is slated to acquire United Supermarkets LLC by the end of October. Terms of the transaction were not made available to the public.

 

Albertson’s operates more than 600 locations across 16 states, 76 of which are in Texas. Following the acquisition, Albertson’s footprint will include 650 stores and 11 distribution centers across 16 states.

 

United serves 29 communities throughout Texas and was founded in 1916. The family-owned chain operates 50 traditional, specialty and Hispanic grocery stores under the United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigo banners and seven convenience stores and 26 fuel centers under the United Express banner. Additionally, United operates two divisions, R.C. Taylor Distributing and Praters and one wholly-owned subsidiary, Llano Logistics.

 

United will continue to operate as a business unit under Albertson’s corporate structure until the completion of the transaction. Robert Taylor, CEO of United, will run United in the role of president and report to Albertson’s CEO, Bob Miller.
