Walgreens CEO Steps Down

Industry media reported late last week that Walgreens Boots Alliance CEO Rosalind Brewer has left the company after joining in 2021.

According to Forbes, “The decision was allegedly mutual after Walgreens saw its share price halve as the drugstore chain now looks to reposition itself as a healthcare provider – and a snazzy new CEO with the industry experience to match.”

Brewer came to Walgreens in March 2021 after serving as chief operating officer for Starbucks and CEO of Walmart’s Sam’s Club, according to Yahoo!Finance.

Brewer wrote in a LinkedIn post, “The Board and I have mutually agreed that I will step down as the Company’s CEO and a member of the Board, effective today. This decision did not come without great consideration for what is best for all of you, our shareholders, customers, patients and my family. In the near-term, I will continue to advise the Board as they search for a permanent CEO with healthcare expertise.”

Meanwhile, according to Brewer, the Board appointed Ginger Graham, current Lead Independent Director of WBA, as the interim CEO.
