North Coast Seafoods Adding Kept to Branded, Private Label Products

North Coast Seafoods, a leader in sustainable seafood, is incorporating sustainably ocean-grown kelp into both its branded and private labeled products sold at leading retailers and restaurants across the USA, as well as online.

Not just a superfood, kelp is a sustainable, hyper-efficient, regenerative, zero-input aquaculture product that requires no fertilizer, pesticides, feeds, soil or freshwater to grow. In addition, kelp farms fight climate change by locally mitigating the effects of ocean acidification. North Coast Seafoods is partnering with Atlantic Sea Farms to procure their kelp and support ASF in surpassing their 2021 milestone of 107,000 lbs. of carbon removed from Maine’s waters.

“At North Coast, we are focused on seafood sustainability, which is a story of continuous improvement, rather than a final destination to be reached. Moreover, as part of the global seafood and ocean-friendly community, we are always looking for new ways to make further improvements to our overall impact,” states Rich Polins, Principal at NCS. “By incorporating kelp into our products and educating consumers on its many health, community and environmental benefits, North Coast is helping to actively reduce our carbon footprint while providing delicious, nutritious and convenient food solutions for generations to come.”

Kelp is packed with micronutrients, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals like iodine, magnesium, folate, potassium, vitamin A and Vitamin B12. Kelp also has the highest concentration of calcium of ANY food, with more per ounce than milk. North Coast Seafoods has harnessed this superfood’s power by blending it with their premium Naked Salmon to create the “Ocean Burger”.
