Tofurky Introduces New Plant-Based Pepperoni to Portfolio

Tofurky, a leading independent producer of plant-based meats in the US, has added plant-based pepperoni to its portfolio of food service meats and cheeses.

With the ability to char to brown or blacken at high heat, Tofurky pepperoni is dried and cured using the same process as traditional pepperoni. The spices and flavorings are concentrated to produce the distinctive pepperoni tanginess and chew, minus the meat. These medallions are vegan, non-GMO, gluten-, soy-, allergen- and cholesterol-free.

“We know it has not always been easy to find delicious plant-based dining options, whether it’s just for one meal or for every meal,” said Tofurky and CEO and president Jaime Athos. “Enabling broad access to foods that are better for the planet has always been our mission. Whether at a ball game, favorite pizza restaurant or even on college campuses; flexitarians, vegetarians and curious carnivores will dine knowing their plant-based choice is making a positive impact on the environment.”

Students at University of California, Los Angeles will be among the first in the nation to enjoy this pepperoni in their cafeterias starting later this year. With a variety of uses and occasions to satisfy students and restaurant diners alike, Tofurky pepperoni can be found in select food service locations with retail to come distributed through DOT foods and broadline distributors.

As a Certified Benefit Corporation, Tofurky puts purpose before profits and reinvests in a wide variety of environmental initiatives, advocate for animal welfare and invest in community. The brand has always focused on sustainability and activism, including lobbying for labeling reform. Being a B-Corp., Tofurky is subject to public audits of supply chain, employee welfare and environmental practices. All Tofurky products are vegan and use local and organic ingredients whenever possible.

Tofurky pepperoni joins the brand’s already robust portfolio of food service options including deli slices, chick’n, burgers, roasts and more. Pepperoni has a shelf life of 365 days frozen and can be purchased in 25lb food service case packs with five, 5lb sliced bags per case.
